Workshop with Andrew Ward

All of us participating in Andrew’s workshop attended with high expectation and we came away with greater confidence to manage a tree or two that had previously had us puzzled.
It was great to see some of our newest members involved but the old hands were there as well because we know the boost a workshop like this can provide.
I took two Peppercorns in training because I wasn’t courageous enough to make the major cuts that I thought they needed for their next stage of development. Andrew immediately pointed to the branches I had thought should go – my decision was vindicated, my confidence was boosted. I was set! There is something essential about the third eye.

Andrew conducted the workshop for a group of beginners (including me) and experienced Bonsai growers.
His knowledge of the horticultural and artistic elements of Bonsai is outstanding and he shared his experience of looking at the style of the tree, through to pruning and wiring, pest control and fertilising techniques.
I would highly recommend all members to attend these workshops as this level of experience is invaluable.
Thank you Andrew for giving up your time to teach us the art.

My thanks goes to the committee and especially Andrew for organising the day.
What a great experience the workshop provided. This is the second workshop with Andrew I have attended and the third overall.
Should any of our new members be wondering if their chosen tree would be good enough for these workshops, don’t concern yourselves – Andrew’s broad knowledge of species and bonsai is amazing. His understanding of each tree is something to witness.
Sunday’s workshop was an incredible learning curve and Andrews’ dry sense of humour is to be enjoyed.
The other workshop I attended as an observer was with Marcela, her speciality is with native bonsai. So whether one observes or participates these workshops provide an opportunity to tap into the knowledge of very experienced and qualified demonstrators .

Andrew designed an excellent format for the workshop: spending time with each of us, sharing his tips for pruning and wiring our trees. There was plenty of open discussion and many questions for Andrew during the workshop.
The popular tree for the day was the Juniperus with Millie bringing her cedar for some special Andrew attention.
Being a novice to the art of bonsai, Andrew’s expert advice on pruning, wiring and the best soil was of great assistance to me. I am sure he gave each of us the benefit of his skill during the workshop.
I highly recommend the workshops available to members and encourage all to attend.
Thanks Andrew for your time and sharing of your skill and knowledge with us.
