Evan Marsh workshops 2026
The South Australian Bonsai Society was delighted to welcome AABC Visiting Tutor Evan Marsh for workshops at Pembroke School. Both sessions were fully subscribed, with members bringing a wide variety of bonsai for styling, refinement, and expert advice. Members benefited greatly from the depth of experience he brought to each workshop.
Evan has practised bonsai since 2012 and committed early to pursuing the art professionally. His training includes 11 months of study in Japan between 2015 and 2019 under renowned shohin artists Koji Hiramatsu and Masahiro Sasaki, as well as participation in major exhibitions such as Gafu-ten and Taikan-ten.
His time in Takamatsu, Japan’s pine‑production region, provided him with specialised knowledge in pine development techniques—insights he shared during his Tuesday night demonstration.
Evan also holds a Bachelor of Agricultural Science (University of Sydney), giving him strong foundations in plant and soil science, mycology, entomology, chemistry, and biology. Throughout the weekend, he translated this scientific background into practical guidance for members.
We are fortunate to have hosted Evan for the past three years, and his workshops continue to lift the standard of bonsai within our Society. The results speak for themselves.
